Viral Marketing - Not Using this Could Kill Your Business!

This is one vital thing that an internet based business must do to get ahead in the ruthless internet marketing world. With tons of competition and rivalry going on, your need to explore every method of marketing and use as many of the most appropriate methods as possible.

It really doesn't matter if you have a killer product or a fantastically designed website, if people don't know that you exist, it doesn't matter, and you are not going to make it even in a small way. Worse yet, your business will just die a very fast death.

There are so many advertising or marketing methods used by the many internet based businesses today, many of which are absolutely useless - but there are still some that can help you with an extra boost in the popularity ratings. One of the the most powerful of these is called "Viral Marketing". While the term "Viral" usually means a virus, a word very much dreaded by all computer users, it is not what it seems. Don't panic - You do not actually use a computer virus to spread your business! No, it has nothing to do with pop up ads and spywares.

Viral Marketing, also known as "Viral Advertising", is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one's product or company over a period of time. Many forms of media are used to reach out to the public without directly promoting the product. Media that are typically the most popular are articles and ebooks.

Heard the term "give to get"? Well, this is fundamental concept behind viral marketing. It is based on the idea that if a person finds value and likes the content of the ebook, for instance, they will pass it on to their friends and colleagues. The ebook usually contains a company brand or logo and descriptions of the products or any other content to help promote the company or its product. The ebook is usually liberally populated with links to access the company's website and products. In the case of articles, the author's resource box at the bottom of the article contains a link back to his or her site.

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because it can be virtually done without any cost. Articles can be posted on hundreds of article directory sites for free. Ebooks can be offered for free download from your own website. You can even offer incentives such as discounts and rebates when a person helps in spreading your viral tool around the internet.

The first important advantage of viral marketing is that you get a lot of publicity and public awareness about your site and your company or products. A viral marketing tool can generate a good flow of traffic i.e. potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great number of people and announce your existence.

The second advantage is that, unlike the traditional placing of a "one-time" advert, these viral tools have a much longer lifespan (some even years!) so when you put out a good viral tool such as articles or ebooks, you continue to reap the benefits over the longer term.

Many sites and companies are catching on to the effectiveness of Viral Marketing and Advertising. Not using it could kill your business. Along with other schemes and methods in promoting your site, like Search Engine Optimization and such, viral marketing could easily push you ahead in the popularity games. There are many Viral Marketing success stories.

Write a set of unique articles (500-700 words each) about your niche product or website, write an interesting ebook (doesn't have to be more than 20 pages) and get them out there. Remember, don't be too impatient - it doesn't happen overnight. Keep at this consistently and you will definitely begin to see the results within a month or two.
